This article is about what you can do to reduce your risk of any of the skeletal or muscular disorders.
Nutrition is so important for strong bones and muscles. Calcium balance in the body is the first priority that I would add into the diet along with vitamin D. Many vitamins and minerals need other vitamins or minerals to be absorbed or react in the body (as needed), such as the b-vitamins. We need the complex Bs in order for each of them to work satisfactorily. It has been found that when one B vitamin is taken daily without the other B-complex vitamins than deficiencies can occur of the others. I believe in taking a high-quality multi-vitamin each day to fill in the gaps of what maybe missing that day or week.
Weight bearing exercise helps to strengthen bones and can help keep them strong to avoid osteoporosis and other skeletal diseases. Many house-hold tasks like lifting bricks while gardening and soil bags can help. But also lifting the right way with knees bent to avoid injury is best. The old adage is still true, if we don’t use it, we lose it.
Yoga has been shown to help with muscle and skeletal strength and tone. In the article Yoga and Osteoporosis: The Do’s and Don’ts (yogainternational.com) it states “Among the weight-bearing movements that Reif suggests for his patients with osteoporosis are walking, slow jogging, climbing stairs, the racquet sport- pickleball, and low-impact dancing. “These provide positive stress for bones, which helps to maintain or increase their density.” However, Reif also points to the limitation of many of these forms of exercise, which is that “They largely impact the legs.” Upper body strength exercise is also needed.
For those who wish to challenge the arms as well, Reif recommends yoga. “Many poses in yoga are weight-bearing on all four limbs, helping us build bone density in the arms as well as the legs.”
While prevention is best there are things that you can do if diagnosed with one of these diseases. In the article Entertainment Today (unilifewell.com) , Drs. Phil and Oz have started their own CBD oil product to take orally for all types of skeletal issues such as osteoporosis and arthritis pain and inflammation. Many herbs in the anti-inflammatory category are helpful as well such as rosemary and slippery elm, as well as oatstraw.
